HAIRCUT

On 25 November 2022, I decided to donate my hair to charity. I hadn’t cut my hair for two years, and when I did, I realised that this very ordinary gesture was a very solemn moment for me. I brought someone into my private life, so to speak, with the aim of changing my appearance, and I realised that cutting one’s hair is very commonplace nowadays, whereas in the Middle Ages, for example, long hair was a sign of wealth and it was frowned upon to cut it. I wanted to highlight the very ordinary moment of a visit to the hairdresser, the moment of intimacy between the customer and Patrick, the concentration and serenity that emanate from it… These are simple, everyday moments, and yet they are moments of sharing and humanity.
That’s why I took inspiration for these photographs from the Russian photographer Dmitry Markov, who captured portraits using a retouching style that focused on very low vibrations.
