HAIRCUT

At the end of 2024, I decided to donate my hair to a charity. I hadn’t cut my hair for two years, and as I had it cut, I realised that this action, which is nevertheless so common, was a very solemn moment for me. I was letting someone else into my private life, so to speak, with the aim of changing my appearance. This made me reflect on the fact that getting a haircut is very trivialised nowadays, whereas in the Middle Ages, for example, having long hair was a sign of wealth, and cutting it was frowned upon. I wanted to highlight this very ordinary moment represented by a visit to the hairdresser: this moment of intimacy between the client and the hairdresser, and the concentration and serenity that emanate from it. These are simple moments of everyday life, and yet they are moments of sharing and humanity. That is why I created this series of photographs, drawing inspiration from the Russian photographer Dmitry Markov, who was known for capturing portraits with a retouching style centred around very low vibrancy.
